Senior Highway Project Manager / Engineer

VHB’s Wethersfield, CT office is seeking a Senior Highway Project Manager to join our dynamic and growing Transportation Team, delivering CT's roadway and safety projects. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to lead complex transportation projects while shaping and expanding our group. Experience working with CTDOT is required; experience with local agencies is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Senior Project Manager for CTDOT and Municipal clients
  • Develop and manage client relationships
  • Manage staff and provide technical and professional development
  • Assist with strategy for expansion of transportation services throughout CT
  • Monitor project financial performance
  • Attend and lead meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish needs and discuss/navigate transportation design/permitting challenges
  • Develop and execute scope associated with transportation design projects
  • Participate in professional organizations that promote relationships with clients and teaming partners
  • Develop new project opportunities and prepare/manage proposal submissions
  • Manage large multi-disciplinary highway reconstruction projects, both traditional bid-build and alternate delivery (Design-Build, PPP, etc.)
  • Assist with production and delivery of transportation projects through the construction administration phase
  • Pre-design project planning and financial management
  • Design of highways and roads including geometric layout, grading, drainage, utility coordination, and environmental permitting
  • Development of technical design and specification documents

  • Advanced knowledge of state regulations governing transportation design
  • Software: MicroStation Open Roads Designer; Civil3D a plus

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field required
  • Master's degree a plus and may substitute for 1 year of experience
  • 11-15 years of professional transportation engineering experience, with at least 5 years of experience working with CTDOT
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; CT PE preferred
  • Substantial professional expertise with progressive highway design projects
