Responsibilities
- Performs skilled repair and maintenance work related to highway projects on roadways, roadside appurtenances, storm drainage systems, and landscapes.
- Operates vehicles requiring a Class A license and various kinds of motorized repair and maintenance equipment.
- Acts as leadworker of an assigned crew.
- Operates moderately complex road, airfield, and landscape maintenance tools and equipment, including ensuring the equipment is operating properly.
- Troubleshoots problems and recommends solutions.
- Provides on-the-job training and directs the work of others.
Requirements
- One year of full-time, paid experience employed by the County of Sacramento in the class of Highway Maintenance Worker.
- Two years of full-time, paid experience operating repair and maintenance vehicles and equipment in support of highway, airfield, or construction maintenance and repair activities.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in vegetation and debris removal and in repair and maintenance of pavement, roadside and/or airfield appurtenances, and landscape areas.
- Knowledge of the California State Motor Vehicle Code as it applies to the operation of road maintenance and repair equipment.
- Ability to operate moderately complex road, airfield, and landscape maintenance tools and equipment, including ensuring the equipment is operating properly.
- Ability to perform a variety of skilled manual tasks related to repair and maintenance of roadways, related landscape and drainage facilities, and airfields.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance.
- Ability to operate power tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to understand and apply Federal and State laws and regulations.
