Key Responsibilities
- Diagnostics and Repair:
- Perform advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting on heavy-duty trucks and related equipment.
- Repair or replace faulty parts such as engines, transmissions, suspension systems, brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, and cooling systems.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and rectify mechanical and electrical issues.
- Preventative Maintenance:
- C Conduct regular preventative maintenance inspections to ensure vehicles comply with safety standards.
- B Perform oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, and other routine maintenance tasks.
- Team Leadership and Supervision:
- A Lead a team of mechanics, providing guidance, training, and mentorship.
- C Assign and monitor work assignments, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- D Ensure that mechanics adhere to safety guidelines and industry regulations.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- E Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- F Communicate with management and other departments to provide updates on vehicle status and repair timelines.
- G Order and track parts inventory, ensuring that necessary parts and tools are available when needed.
- Compliance and Safety:
- H Ensure all vehicles and repairs meet federal, state, and local safety and emissions regulations.
- I Adhere to and promote a safe working environment by following all safety procedures and protocols.
- J Identify and mitigate safety risks in the shop and while working on vehicles.
- Technical Expertise:
- K Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in heavy-duty vehicle technology and repair techniques.
- L Troubleshoot and repair advanced mechanical and electrical systems, including computer-controlled systems.
- Collaboration:
- M Work closely with fleet managers, operations personnel, and vendors to prioritize repairs and maintain fleet efficiency.
- N Provide technical assistance and support to other mechanics and departments as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent; advanced technical training or certifications (ASE, CDL) preferred.
- 5+ years of experience as a heavy truck mechanic, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead position.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and heavy vehicle repair equipment.
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, air brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy vehicle regulations.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work in physically demanding environments.
