Senior Heavy Equipment Operator - (26-169)

About the Role

Drives and operates heavy-duty trucks and equipment in the loading, hauling, and distribution of materials, transportation of equipment, and construction and maintenance of infrastructure. Supervises work crews in the absence of an on-site foreman or first-line supervisor as directed.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy trucks and equipment, including dump trucks, flatbeds, loaders, backhoes, compactors, graders, dozers, trenchers, lowboys, cranes, vacuum trucks, and pans.
• Transports equipment to work sites.
• Inspects trucks, tools, and equipment; performs maintenance to ensure proper working condition.
• Performs physical labor in the maintenance, restoration, or construction of roadways, utilities, drainage systems, or disposal sites.
• Works on special projects, drainage projects, and erosion control.
• Operates hand-held and gas-powered tools and equipment (e.g., pipe saws, air compressors, level instruments, pipe threaders, jackhammers, chain saws, shovels, rakes).
• Prepares sites for work, including sweeping streets, shoveling and raking asphalt, and stringing lines on roads.
• Assists with traffic control, including setting up signs and barricades on roadways.
• Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the operation of heavy and complex trucks and equipment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Experience in a lead/supervisory capacity preferred.
• Knowledge of road maintenance and construction techniques preferred.
• Valid Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with no O (tractor/trailer) or 4 (manual transmission) restrictions.
• May require N (tanker endorsement), dependent upon assignment.

Physical Requirements

• Must be physically able to operate heavy and complex trucks and equipment requiring manipulation of multiple controls, where excellent eye/hand/foot coordination is essential for safe and productive operations.
• Must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• Physical demands exceed sedentary work.

Ability to explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions, and read records, manuals, codes, blueprints, plans, and specifications in technical terminology.
