Senior Health Economist

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Task Lead / Engagement Lead, owning execution, quality, and deadlines for assigned workstreams
  • Act as Project Manager by developing workplans, setting milestones, managing dependencies, and allocating resources
  • Lead and mentor staff: assign tasks, coach, review outputs, and uphold analytic rigor and documentation standards
  • Liaise directly with the client: facilitate working sessions, provide progress updates, manage expectations, and support decision-making
  • Spearhead project deadlines, proactively manage risks/issues, escalate blockers early, and propose solutions
  • Design and oversee analyses using Medicare and other claims data to support payment model design, implementation, and evaluation

Preferred Domain Focus

  • ACO / Value-Based Care (e.g., attribution, quality measurement, shared savings, benchmarking, risk adjustment, population health analytics, payment model operations)
  • Hospital Finance / Hospital Global Budgets (e.g., program operations, reimbursement policies, margin/cost analytics, revenue drivers)

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in Economics, Statistics, Public Health, Public Policy, Health Services Research, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare analytics, health economics, research, or consulting
  • Proven experience leading work as a task lead, workstream lead, engagement lead, or project manager—including managing timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communications
  • Ability to manage and develop staff (direct reports or matrixed teams)
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for analysis and reproducible workflows
  • Experience working with healthcare claims and enrollment data within large data warehouse environments
  • Solid understanding of healthcare data structures and patient attribution concepts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex analyses

Nice to Have

  • Experience with econometrics/statistical modeling and program evaluation methods
  • Familiarity with Medicare datasets/environments such as IDR or CCW
  • Experience with Snowflake and/or Databricks
  • Support experience with Medicare/Medicaid payment methodologies or payment model implementation
  • Publication or significant report-writing experience for policy/technical audiences

Work Location and Schedule

  • Remote to start. After approximately six months, if residing within approximately 30 miles of DC, New York, or Minnesota, the role may shift to up to 4 days/week onsite.
  • If not local, role remains 100% remote

Compensation

Salary Range: $115K–$175K (final offer based on skills, experience, education, and clearance)
