About the role

The Server Hardware Engineering team within AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and operating the compute and storage server products that power Amazon's web services. We work closely with our customers to understand their technical needs and business goals, and we collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, product owners, and other specialists to deliver innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Owning and leading the design and development of server products utilizing a wide range of design and manufacturing partners.
  • Working closely with customers to understand their technical needs and business goals, and architecting solutions that meet their requirements.
  • Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of component, firmware, test, qualification, and integration engineers to bring these servers to the data center.
  • Overseeing the fleet of servers after launch, monitoring their quality, and ensuring they meet customer requirements.
  • Working with thought leaders in multiple technology areas to develop next-generation hardware.
  • Having a direct impact on customer success, driving the development of the Cloud, and having a meaningful impact on Amazon's success.

Requirements

  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • Experience in server technologies such as thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent 5+ years of experience with design and manufacturing processes.
  • 5+ years of experience leading Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) and other suppliers in the product development and manufacturing processes.
  • In-depth expertise in one or more server technologies such as thermal/mechanical design, high-speed bus design, signal integrity, failure analysis, server components (CPU, GPU, SSDs, drives), BIOS, BMC, and networking.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent 5+ years of experience with design and manufacturing processes.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field 10+ years of hardware development with a focus on system/server development in compute and/or storage server architecture and design for large-scale applications.
  • Expertise in early product definition and feature trade-off analysis.
  • Experience with server validation and issue root cause analysis.
  • Experience with deploying and operating hardware and applications across large data centers.
  • Proficient scripting, debugging abilities, and Linux operations commands.
  • Experience with leading hardware and software development engineering teams.
