About the Role

Fine Art Handcrafted Lighting is a Made in America lighting company that is passionately devoted to introducing our artistic lighting and studio glass to the new generation of designers, junior designers, architects and industry leaders in the commercial segment. Since the 1940's, Fine Art Handcrafted Lighting has led the way in innovative and creative light artistry. If hired you will enjoy working in the cornerstone of creative design of the lighting industry. Our glass techniques vary often and include: traditional glassblowing/sculpting, mold blowing, hot casting as well as fusing, kiln casting, coldworking, and UV gluing. Large one-of-a-kind custom installations are an exciting element of the job. A studio perk for glassblowers is allotted time on weekends to make his/her own glasswork.

Responsibilities

  • Support the creation of innovative designs, often pushing the boundaries of glassblowing techniques.
  • Oversee complex glassblowing projects as directed, ensuring that they meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Ensure that all glass pieces produced meet the highest standards of craftsmanship.
  • May work independently or as part of a team, depending on the nature of the project.
  • Follow the company dress code (example: cotton T-shirt, Jeans, Cargo Pants, closed toes shoes) and abide by the company's industrial safety standards—using proper PPE.

Requirements

  • Qualified individual with experience in production work and various bench blowing techniques.
  • Previous work experience in production glass studios is of the highest value.
  • Demonstrating exceptional skill in all aspects of glassblowing, mold blowing, shaping, forming and finishing work.
  • Has basic coldworking skills.
  • Experience in ladle casting.
  • Having a deep understanding of glass properties, techniques, and equipment.
  • The ability to design and create unique and innovative glass pieces.
  • The capacity to overcome challenges and find solutions to technical issues.
  • The ability to guide and mentor others in glassblowing.
  • A willingness to be coached by others. Senior staff may request the glassblower to change the making process when the product design evolves or take constructive criticism in their glass and adjust in a positive manner. Coachability requires the necessary patience and open-mindedness to learn.
  • Glassblowing can be physically demanding, requiring strength, dexterity, and the ability to stand for long periods of time in hot weather. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
