About the role

Our soon-to-open Harrisburg, PA area office is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead, manage, and provide technical support for complex geotechnical and interdisciplinary infrastructure projects. These projects span transportation, power/energy, water, federal, and other large-scale infrastructure regionally and nationwide. As an employee-owner, you’ll collaborate with a team, contribute to business operations, and share in the firm’s financial success.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and provide technical support within a collaborative team of geotechnical professionals.
• Provide engineering support during the exploration, design, and construction phases of geotechnical projects.
• Plan, perform, and oversee subsurface exploration and testing programs.
• Manage and mentor junior engineers.
• Lead and support business development initiatives, including proposal preparation and industry partnerships.
• Serve as a client interface, establishing project goals, planning resources, and ensuring high-quality deliverables on time and within budget.
• Prepare and/or review field test logs, geological/engineering reports, instrumentation, and monitoring data.
• Oversee geotechnical/geological engineering analysis, calculations, and the creation of drawings and graphics.
• Develop geotechnical design drawings and specifications.
• Perform and oversee construction observation of specialty geotechnical works and foundation construction.
• Occasional overnight and out-of-town travel may be required.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant professional geotechnical engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering (Master’s Degree preferred).
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Strong fundamental knowledge of geotechnical engineering and soil/rock mechanics.
• Experience with soil/rock slope evaluation, remediation design, and construction is a plus.
• Relevant experience with transportation, power/energy, water/wastewater foundation designs, subsurface investigations, and geotechnical reports.
• Expertise in shallow/deep foundations, stability analysis, retaining walls, liquefaction analysis, deformation analysis, and settlement analysis.
• Knowledge of design codes including IBC and AASHTO, and experience with ASD and LRFD design methodology.
• Proficiency with software such as MathCAD, gINT/OpenGround, BoreDM, AutoCAD, MicroStation, LPile, Group, MFAD, Slope/W, Slide, Dips, RocFall, RocPlane, and Settle3D.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, professional work ethic, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to navigate investigation and construction sites, including trenches, ladders, and outdoor work.
• Valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and ability to pass background checks (criminal history, motor vehicle record, credit check, and pre-employment screening).

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $100,000 to $140,000, varying based on geographic location and other factors.
