Senior Geotechnical Engineer
About the Opportunity
An established engineering consulting firm in the St. Louis metro area is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join its growing team. With a strong reputation across Missouri and Illinois, the firm provides geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, environmental consulting, and development services to a diverse range of public and private sector clients. Projects span commercial, industrial, infrastructure, healthcare, education, aviation, and federal sectors.
This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of projects, build client relationships, contribute to business development efforts, and play a key role in the continued growth of the geotechnical practice.
Responsibilities
- Develop proposals and scopes of work for geotechnical investigations
- Maintain and expand relationships with existing and prospective clients
- Manage geotechnical projects from initial proposal through final report delivery
- Coordinate drilling programs and oversee subcontracted field exploration activities
- Review subsurface data and determine appropriate laboratory testing programs
- Perform geotechnical analyses and design, including:
- Settlement analyses
- Bearing capacity evaluations
- Shallow foundation recommendations
- Drilled pier design and calculations
- Pavement design
- Grading recommendations
- Retaining wall foundation design and stability evaluations
- Seismic reviews and design calculations
- Review laboratory testing results and interpret findings
- Prepare geotechnical engineering reports and recommendations
- Assist with project management, budgeting, and invoicing
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, contractors, developers, and public-sector stakeholders
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline
- Master's degree preferred
- PE license required or ability to quickly obtain PE licensure in both Missouri and Illinois
- Strong experience in geotechnical consulting and engineering design
- Experience preparing technical reports and recommendations
- Proven client-facing communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Business development experience is highly desirable

Pay
Competitive base salary of approximately $110,000 - $140,000+ depending on experience
