Senior Geophysicist

About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Senior Geophysicist to join our growing team based in our Lymington office. This role involves leading a field team, acquiring geophysical data, and assisting with data processing and interpretation. It is a great opportunity to build on your skills and gain further exposure to a variety of interesting projects in the offshore renewable energy sector.
Successful applicants will have a strong background in geophysics and geology, a working knowledge of marine surveying, and will act as a role model to more junior team members.
Responsibilities
- Undertake fieldwork for extended periods away from home on onshore and offshore projects
- Lead offshore surveys as a Party Chief
- Project management of intermediate to complex projects
- Assist in leading data acquisition, maintain accurate records, and ensure quality and consistency of field data, data processing, deliverable creation, and data management
- Assist Processing and Reporting Managers with reporting, charting, and data management
- Support Project Managers in technical project matters
- Act as a role model and technical authority for junior staff, providing leadership and mentorship
- Continual training and development of junior staff, including updating training and procedural material
- Implement best practices for handling, maintaining, and storing survey equipment
- Lead vessel mobilisations and calibrations
- Liaise with clients and organisations throughout the project lifecycle
- Line management of junior staff
- Support and maintain QHSE standards, including BMS documentation
- Undertake data processing as required
- Lead research into new technologies and arrange system/software trials
- Participate in the on-call roster for weekend technical support
Requirements
- A high level of competence in data processing, data acquisition, and systems integration
- Proficiency in geophysical data acquisition and processing software suites
- Experience in training and mentoring
- Experience with AutoCAD and GIS packages for tasks such as equipment flange design and line planning
- At least 3 years of experience working onboard vessels undertaking marine survey operations
- Experience leading a small team in marine survey tasks
- Experience leading vessel mobilisations and calibrations
- High level of attention to detail and computer literacy
- Project management experience with intermediate complexity projects
- Strong academic report writing skills
- Ability to work in the UK
- Full, valid UK driving license
