Senior Fund Manager
Seeking a proactive, adaptable, and highly organized Senior Fund Manager who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This role requires a collaborative professional with strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while supporting a broad range of research and financial activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, resourceful, customer-service focused, and comfortable working independently as well as partnering with faculty, staff, students, and campus partners to support the department’s operational and research goals.
Responsibilities
- Manage contract and grant finances, including closeout processes.
- Negotiate, exchange ideas, and collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to arrive at mutually acceptable solutions.
- Advise staff and academic personnel on University accounting policies, practices, and procedures.
- Interpret University regulations, legal requirements, and accounting guidelines pertaining to business activities.
- Read and interpret administrative policy manuals, contract and grant regulations, and guidelines.
- Utilize spreadsheet and word processing applications (e.g., Microsoft) to prepare reports, presentations, and analyze financial data.
- Compute ratios, rates, and percentages to prepare analytical financial reports.
- Work effectively in a busy office with frequent interruptions, diversified responsibilities, and changing priorities.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of financial information.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, and coworkers.
- Navigate university purchasing, travel reimbursement systems, and procurement practices.
- Manage multiple budgets with varying timelines, personnel, and deliverables from different funding sources.
- Perform financial analysis, planning, preparation, and administration for budgets with multiple funding sources.
- Identify and resolve financial discrepancies with appropriate follow-through.
- Analyze information, practices, or procedures to identify problems, patterns, trends, and relationships, and formulate logical conclusions.
- Design, generate, present, and discuss clear, concise, and detailed statistical and financial reports.
- Gather, organize, and analyze information to define problems, draw conclusions, and recommend solutions.
- Coordinate and contribute to projects from conceptualization through implementation.
- Develop creative and initiative-driven solutions to complex problems.
- Understand and engage with Campus Administrative units to obtain information, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
- Utilize UCLA financial systems, including UCPath, Cognos, QDB, BruinBuy Plus, Transfer of Funds (TOF), Transfer of Non-Payroll Expense (NPEAR), Transfer of Payroll Expense (Salary Cost Transfer), and UCLA Foundation Monetary Transfer of Fund.
- Train department professionals on fund management activities and cost-effective financial management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience/training.
- Experience as a Fund Manager with expertise in planning and managing contract and grant finances, including closeout.
- Knowledge of University policies, practices, and procedures related to accounting transactions and internal controls.
- Familiarity with University regulations, legal requirements, and accounting guidelines for business activities.
- Proficiency in personal computer applications, including spreadsheet and word processing tools (e.g., Microsoft).
- Experience with university purchasing, travel reimbursement systems, and procurement practices.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build productive working relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators.

Pay
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, and certifications, among other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common.
