Senior Fortinet Firewall Engineer FortiGate Network Security

Temporary full-time onsite role in Carson City, NV (89712) for an estimated 11 months.

About the role

Client is seeking a Senior Firewall Engineer to provide hands-on management, engineering, and operational support for its hybrid network security environment. This role will lead the day-to-day management and continuous improvement of Fortinet FortiGate firewalls, while supporting the organization’s evolving Palo Alto Prisma SASE/cloud security architecture. The Senior Firewall Engineer will manage the full firewall rule lifecycle, troubleshoot security and connectivity issues, support incident response, and ensure firewall configurations are secure, optimized, and well documented. The role will also work closely with vendor engineers during a firewall modernization initiative and help transition the environment into sustainable long-term operations. This position will serve as a key technical resource for firewall operations, network segmentation, secure connectivity, documentation, and security best practices across both on-premises and cloud environments.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full firewall rule lifecycle, including design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization
• Provide hands-on management and operational support for Fortinet FortiGate firewalls in an enterprise hybrid environment
• Troubleshoot security and connectivity issues, analyze firewall/network logs, and support incident response activities
• Create and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, and operational procedures
• Collaborate with vendor engineers during firewall modernization initiatives
• Support the transition of the environment into sustainable long-term operations
• Ensure firewall configurations are secure, optimized, and aligned with security best practices
• Work across technical teams and business stakeholders to implement network segmentation, VPNs, and secure access design

Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on experience in firewall engineering and network security operations
• 7+ years of strong, hands-on experience managing Fortinet FortiGate firewalls in an enterprise environment
• Proven experience managing the firewall rule lifecycle, including design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization
• Experience working in hybrid environments, including both on-premises and cloud infrastructure
• Strong understanding of network protocols, network segmentation, VPNs, and secure access design
• Ability to analyze firewall/network logs and troubleshoot connectivity and security issues
• Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, network diagrams, and operational procedures
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Palo Alto Networks firewall technologies (7+ years)
• Experience with Prisma SASE or other cloud-delivered firewall/SASE solutions
• Additional experience with cloud security technologies and architecture
• Relevant firewall, network security, or cloud security certifications

Pay

Hourly rate between $55.00 and $58.00.

Schedule

Onsite, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
