About the role

TSC is seeking a Senior Flight Controls & GNC Engineer to support our growing operations in Raeford, NC, Sierra Vista AZ or Arlington, VA. This position serves as the lead focal point for Flight Controls Systems in our Airborne ISR Division, ensuring the product line's safety and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead singular focal point for flight control automation.
  • Translate technical information and business use cases, leading and executing multiple technological initiatives simultaneously.
  • Hire, develop, supervise, and manage a technical team focused on Flight Controls and GNC Automation across multiple fixed-wing platforms.
  • Act as a key cross-functional stakeholder for experimental learning experiences in HIL/SIL, ground, and flight tests.
  • Lead, manage, or conduct data analysis in support of time-sensitive developmental or operational efforts, integrating results into risk management and safety workflows.
  • Lead, manage, or support the development, planning, or execution of various test-related activities for internal and customer-driven projects, processes, or gate reviews.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, Controls engineering or a related field, with at least five years of direct experience with fixed-wing UAS Flight Controls and GNC implementation.
  • US Citizenship and eligibility for a DoD Security Clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical project teams, managing risk, and achieving viable technical solutions.
  • Practical experience in developing or improving fixed-wing UAS technology, including software development for flight controls and guidance, navigation, and control systems.
  • Ability to understand automation challenges and guide collaborative solutions.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop simulators, conducting testing and troubleshooting of HW/SW interfaces.
  • Familiarity with software configuration management tools, version control systems, defect tracking tools, and peer review workflows.
  • Leadership and management skills, including the ability to lead, manage, or individually contribute to tasks.

Qualifications

  • More than ten years of directly relevant experience in the required qualifications, with a strong ability to thrive in a team environment with other highly technical engineers and business-oriented innovators.

Skills

  • Technical expertise in fixed-wing UAS Flight Controls and GNC implementation.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Experience with software development and testing for flight controls and guidance systems.
  • Ability to manage risk and deliver viable technical solutions.
