Senior Firmware Engineer

This Senior engineering role will help our team research, develop, maintain, enhance, and customize the embedded solutions that drive HID’s Secure Issuance FARGO printers and laminators, ensuring they remain the most innovative and compelling solutions in the marketplace. The position involves a variety of analysis and programming tasks in a cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities
- Analyze and evaluate embedded solution requirements; collaborate with colleagues and customers to gather and define product requirements.
- Assist in product design and architecture development.
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded solutions to satisfy documented requirements.
- Facilitate and assist in the task estimation process.
- Work and communicate in a cross-functional team environment, including firmware, electrical, mechanical, and quality assurance engineers, product line managers, customer support representatives, and other stakeholders.
- Investigate and analyze reported defects to resolve them in a timely manner.
- Proactively provide status updates, raise issues, and communicate necessary information to appropriate team members.
- Prepare, present, and participate in technical discussions and code reviews.
- Contribute to the continued development of processes that improve efficiency and quality; assist in formulating standards and development practices.
- Work with all departments to continuously improve products, processes, workflows, and customer experience.
- Make recommendations and assist in implementing new processes and tools.
- Consult with other engineers to evaluate interfaces between hardware and embedded solutions, as well as operational and performance requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- 4-7+ years of related embedded firmware development experience, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience with Agile methodologies; knowledge of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is desired.
- 4-7+ years of embedded device development experience utilizing object-oriented programming in C/C++.
- Ability to effectively use and operate oscilloscopes, analyzers, power supplies, and other development tools.
- Embedded Linux experience is a plus.
- FPGA experience is a plus.
- Experience with USB and/or Ethernet devices is beneficial.
- Experience with DC and stepper motors is a major plus.
- Working knowledge of source code management and configuration.
- Strong understanding of development processes, principles, and objectives.
- Experience in development through the entire lifecycle, including design, architecture, and implementation.
- Experience with implementation of security protocols and secure cryptographic techniques; documentation of security aspects is highly desired.

Pay
The base salary range for this role in the United States is $120,000 to $135,000. The wage range considers factors such as skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs. Geographic differentials may apply based on location.
