About the role
Allegion is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to join a highly engaged team within a global organization of 14,000+ employees, representing 30+ brands (including Schlage, Von Duprin, and LCN) focused on safety, security, and access management. This is a hybrid role based in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and debug firmware for platform assets used in multiple access control scenarios.
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks for firmware testing covering static analysis, unit, integration, and regression testing.
- Measure and increase test coverage over time, making sure to emulate edge cases and failure scenarios.
- With assistance from other teams, design and maintain automated hardware-in-the-loop test hardware to support regression testing.
- This will include everything from verifying wireless network functionality to testing sensor behavior.
- Identify, document, troubleshoot, and resolve firmware issues.
- Monitor and analyze test results, creating detailed test reports and quality metrics to ensure continuous improvement in firmware quality.
- Improve quality, robustness, and rigor of firmware platform code.
- Perform design & code analysis utilizing appropriate tools.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5 plus years of firmware engineering experience.
- Experience working with ARM Cortex-M series.
- Experience working with Real Time Operating Systems.
- Proficiency in Python and C with strong analytical skills to debug, troubleshoot, and isolate complex issues across firmware and hardware.
- Ability to read schematics and work with and automate electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and voltmeters.
- A strong understanding of QA methodologies, best practices, and testing frameworks, with the ability to tailor processes for high-quality firmware releases.
- Experience working in a collaborative environment with agile development processes.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to document and convey complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
- Passion for developing IoT solutions at the intersection of electronics hardware, mobile applications (iOS and Android), and cloud technologies.
- Preferred experience with communication protocols (Wi-Fi, BLE, and Thread), and analyzing network packet sniffers and logs.
- Knowledge of CI/CD systems, version control, and test-driven development.
