About the role

Our client is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer for a long‑term contract supporting connected consumer products. The engineer will develop, deploy, and troubleshoot production firmware across multiple embedded product platforms, work independently, learn an existing technical environment quickly, and resolve issues across both firmware and hardware. The role requires rapid productivity and ownership of development initiatives with limited day‑to‑day technical oversight. Expertise in Rust and C is essential, along with Python experience for testing, automation, and tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, and troubleshoot production firmware for multiple embedded platforms.
  • Take ownership of assigned development initiatives from concept through delivery.
  • Collaborate directly with electrical engineering, quality, software engineering, and external vendors.
  • Interpret datasheets, reference manuals, technical documentation, and hardware errata.
  • Maintain and follow established firmware release, update, and manufacturing‑test processes.
  • Use Git‑based development and pull‑request workflows, including submodules.
  • Utilize hardware‑debugging tools such as SWD, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers to isolate issues.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of experience developing firmware released into production products.
  • Strong hands‑on expertise with both Rust and C (advanced Rust experience highly valued).
  • Working knowledge of Python for testing, automation, and development tooling.
  • Embedded C development on constrained microcontrollers, including experience with FreeRTOS or similar RTOS.
  • Understanding of embedded resource constraints (stack, memory, flash).
  • Strong knowledge of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocols (GATT, advertising, connection parameters, pairing, bonding).
  • Hardware‑debugging experience using SWD, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Ability to isolate issues across firmware, hardware, communications, and connected devices.
  • Proficiency interpreting datasheets, reference manuals, technical documentation, and hardware errata.
  • Experience with Git‑based development, pull‑request workflows, and submodules.
  • Ability to independently own firmware projects from troubleshooting through implementation and delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to complete a focused technical assessment as part of the interview process.

Preferred

  • Experience developing firmware for consumer or connected products.
  • Familiarity with Silicon Labs Gecko SDK and Simplicity Studio.
  • Experience with ESP32 platforms, esp‑idf, and/or esp‑rs.
  • Experience with Jenkins or comparable CI/CD platforms for embedded builds.
  • Work with Nordic, STM, TI, Silicon Labs, or similar embedded chipsets.
  • Integration of embedded devices with iOS or Android applications.
  • Extensive hands‑on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, and other lab equipment.
  • Experience maintaining or working within an embedded‑development benchtop environment.
