About the role
The role is a full-time opportunity for a senior fire protection engineer who wants to stay hands-on technically while also taking on project leadership, client relationship management, peer review, mentoring, and business development.
Responsibilities
- Analyze existing fire protection systems.
- Design new fire protection systems, including suppression systems, fire detection systems, fire alarm systems, and mass notification systems.
- Perform building code and fire code analysis.
- Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards.
- Manage day-to-day communication with internal and external clients.
- Lead fire protection engineering projects while supporting internal teams and external clients.
- Provide project management for schedules, deliverables, and client expectations.
- Review colleagues' work product and provide peer review support.
- Support and expand existing client relationships through excellent project execution, proposal support, networking, and ongoing client engagement.
- Help grow existing client relationships and support repeat business.
- Participate in industry organizations such as the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
- Travel approximately 20% for project work, client meetings, and site visits.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Active Fire Protection Professional Engineer (PE) license (issued by any U.S. state) required.
- Progressive fire protection engineering experience within an AEC consulting engineering environment required.
- 10+ years of fire protection engineering experience.
- Experience managing projects, schedules, deliverables, and client expectations.
- Experience designing fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, government, industrial, mission critical, or similar building projects.
- Experience coordinating with architects and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience working directly with internal and external clients.
- Strong knowledge of fire codes, building codes, suppression systems, fire alarm systems, mass notification systems, and life safety requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Able to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Able to travel.
