About the role

The role is a full-time opportunity for a senior fire protection engineer who wants to stay hands-on technically while also taking on project leadership, client relationship management, peer review, mentoring, and business development.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing fire protection systems.
  • Design new fire protection systems, including suppression systems, fire detection systems, fire alarm systems, and mass notification systems.
  • Perform building code and fire code analysis.
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards.
  • Manage day-to-day communication with internal and external clients.
  • Lead fire protection engineering projects while supporting internal teams and external clients.
  • Provide project management for schedules, deliverables, and client expectations.
  • Review colleagues' work product and provide peer review support.
  • Support and expand existing client relationships through excellent project execution, proposal support, networking, and ongoing client engagement.
  • Help grow existing client relationships and support repeat business.
  • Participate in industry organizations such as the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
  • Travel approximately 20% for project work, client meetings, and site visits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Active Fire Protection Professional Engineer (PE) license (issued by any U.S. state) required.
  • Progressive fire protection engineering experience within an AEC consulting engineering environment required.
  • 10+ years of fire protection engineering experience.
  • Experience managing projects, schedules, deliverables, and client expectations.
  • Experience designing fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, government, industrial, mission critical, or similar building projects.
  • Experience coordinating with architects and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience working directly with internal and external clients.
  • Strong knowledge of fire codes, building codes, suppression systems, fire alarm systems, mass notification systems, and life safety requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Able to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Able to travel.
