Responsibilities

  • Capital Monitoring & Reporting:
    • Manage the annual capital budgeting process.
    • Monitor monthly capital expenditures and prepare variance reports.
    • Track capital spending against approved budgets and Ministry funding.
    • Maintain lease schedules and ensure lease-related financial compliance.
    • Prepare Hospital Infrastructure Renewal Funding and Capital Expenditure Survey submissions.
  • Commercial Leases:
    • Monitor commercial lease agreements to ensure annual lease increases and notifications align with contract terms.
    • Complete MPAC reporting requirements for buildings/property taxation.
    • Enter, reconcile, and monitor third-party property management financials.
  • Month-End Processes:
    • Prepare monthly journal entries, including prepaid contracts, ensuring alignment with policies.
    • Complete monthly reconciliations.
    • Manage capital invoicing to the Foundation and related reconciliations.
  • Financial Statement Reporting, Annual Audit, & Other Reporting:
    • Prepare monthly financial statements for the Foundation and/or BCHS.
    • Support year-end financial statement preparation.
    • Assist with annual external audits.
    • Develop and maintain financial models, reporting tools, and analytical frameworks to support decision-making.
    • Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls and streamline financial processes.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (required).
  • Professional CPA designation (required or in progress; candidate enrolled in later stages of the program preferred).
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in financial accounting, capital finance, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, including month-end and year-end processes.
  • Experience working in a hospital setting or relevant/transferable experience.
  • Required experience with:
    • Financial statement preparation.
    • Month-end/year-end processes.
    • Audit support.
    • Budgeting and forecasting.
    • Capital asset accounting.
    • Healthcare or public-sector funding/reporting.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of financial software and reporting programs (Microsoft Office, MS 365, Meditech, World Software ESM).
