About the role

The Commercial Products and Infrastructure (CPI) organization drives Microsoft Cloud & AI capacity, margin excellence, and resource allocation rigor across Microsoft’s portfolio. Within CPI, the Resource Investment Strategy finance team partners deeply with engineering leaders to ensure $20B+ resources across ~100K engineering FTEs are continuously aligned to strategic engineering priorities.

As Senior Finance Manager for M365 and Copilot, you will lead financial modeling and business analysis, partner with Engineering leaders on resource allocation decisions, and own efficient financial processes that bring clarity, rigor, and speed to investment planning. This role enables you to develop a CFO mindset and influence leadership to drive expense management and resource allocation decisions, aligning investments and costs with a prioritized engineering product roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Partnership: Provide strategic leadership to Engineering leaders to drive operating leverage through resource allocation and investment optimization. Give visibility to the current landscape, analyze macro-level results, and apply systems thinking to identify and recommend levers influencing decision-making.
  • Resource Analysis: Build a cohesive story by incorporating business insights through resource allocation and workforce planning. Understand the connection between resource allocation and overall financial performance. Analyze results to assess performance against plan/forecast, monitor trends, and support business rhythms.
  • Business Health: Drive process excellence while partnering across Engineering to continuously assess portfolio health by reviewing key drivers. Identify opportunities, risks, and tradeoffs to ensure resources and investments align with business strategy, product engineering roadmaps, and company priorities.
  • Finance Transformation & AI Leadership: Lead the evolution of FP&A capabilities through AI, advanced analytics, and automation. Drive adoption of AI-enabled forecasting, scenario modeling, reporting, and decision-support solutions to improve planning accuracy, accelerate insights, and reduce manual effort. Partner across Finance, Engineering, and Data teams to scale best practices and embed AI into core business rhythms.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science, or related field AND 2+ years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance, OR
    • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science, or related field AND 4+ years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance, OR equivalent experience.
  • Preferred:
    • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science, or related field AND 6+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience, OR
    • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science, or related field AND 8+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience, OR equivalent experience.
    • 1+ years of experience in multinationals with multi-product/multi-segment finance roles.
    • 1+ years of work experience in a matrix-based organization.
    • 1+ years of work experience in the technology or software industry.
    • Financial analysis experience in a high-tech company, ideally in commercial cloud services, business models, and economics.
    • Proven ability to partner, build trust, communicate with, and influence executives; ability to simplify complexity and influence through storytelling.
    • Ability to influence without authority, operate in ambiguity, and solve difficult problems in a dynamic, matrixed environment.
    • Strong interpersonal and cross-group collaboration skills; ability to drive simplicity in complex environments.
    • Proficiency in combining, structuring, and mining large volumes of data using tools such as Power BI, Excel, SQL, etc.
    • Adept Microsoft Excel user familiar with advanced functions and charting capabilities.
    • Experience with Agentic tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot), semantic models, or similar enterprise data frameworks is a plus.

Pay

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $97,600 – $188,400 per year. A different range applies to specific work locations, including the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, where the base pay range is USD $125,000 – $206,400 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
