Job Summary

Mass General Brigham Ventures is the venture capital arm of Mass General Brigham, one of the world's leading medical research institutions. We are seeking an individual with strong quantitative and analytical skills to support the financial and operational management of our venture portfolio.

Role

This is a unique opportunity to join a highly collaborative, mission-driven team at the intersection of life sciences, finance, and innovation. As a Senior Finance Associate, you'll play a key role in the operational and financial success of our portfolio of cutting-edge life science companies.

Reporting Structure

The Senior Finance Associate reports to the Senior Director of Finance and works closely with other members of the venture capital and innovation teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage cash flow spreadsheets to monitor portfolio company investments, returns, and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with external financial professionals such as the fund administrator, independent accountants, banks, and brokers to ensure accurate, timely execution of fund operations.
  • Support the preparation of financial reports and presentations for the Investment Committee, Limited Partners (LPs), and internal governing boards.
  • Partner with internal treasury operations to align capital flow projections and portfolio performance tracking.
  • Oversee the annual audit and tax filing processes, ensuring all submissions and documentation are accurate and on schedule.
  • Create investor-facing materials, presentations, and financial summaries to support fundraising and LP communications.
  • Plan and coordinate capital calls and distributions.
  • Prepare and initiate wire transfers for investments.
  • Uphold strong internal controls and help safeguard the firm’s financial assets through adherence to best accounting practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in venture capital, private equity, public accounting, or fund administration required.
  • Advanced Excel expertise, including proficiency with complex formulas, data modeling, and financial analysis tools; true Excel power user.
  • Strong understanding of venture capital fund structures, including capital call and distribution processes, waterfall modeling, and carried interest calculations.
  • Solid grasp of GAAP accounting principles and fund financial reporting requirements.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail; proactive, resourceful, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear, professional communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to distill complex data into concise insights.
  • Creative presentation design skills with the ability to develop polished, investor-ready PowerPoint presentations and other visual financial materials.
  • Interest or experience in the life sciences sector is preferred—but a passion for innovation and precise financial execution is essential.

  • Remote Type: Hybrid – in office three out of five days per week.
