About the role

This position is in the Office of Materials Technology's (OMT) Asphalt Technology Division and serves as a Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector for the Asphalt Quality Assurance (QA) Program. The position is essential to OMT operations and to Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Audits, evaluates, and enforces the proper manufacture, shipment, and placement of asphalt mixes statewide.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: Eight (8) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.
  • Selective Qualification: Three (3) years of experience in engineering applications of asphalt mixtures, binders or emulsions.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

  • Knowledge of Asphalt Mix Design, Plants and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of construction and material specifications.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $54,000 - $70,000 annually.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work and travel to various locations throughout Maryland and neighboring states.
