Summary of Purpose
Leads monitoring, peer review, and assistance activities for nuclear power stations in radiological protection and industrial safety, interacting with utility personnel, INPO/WANO management, and industry professional groups.
Essential Functions
- Performs the functions of a lead radiological protection evaluator on peer review and assistance activities at nuclear power stations and utilities while leading and mentoring others
- Leads and directs analysis activities, reviews documents, and develops reports that describe area performance, areas for improvement, areas of concern, strengths and recommendations and effectively communicates results to station and utility leaders
- Organizes and directs station observation activities and interviews, and briefs station and utility leaders
- Recognizes gaps to excellence in radiological protection and industrial safety
- Discerns significance, scope, and causes of plant problems and strengths
- Represents INPO on all issues related to radiological protection and industrial safety, including industry meetings and during the establishment of/or changes to industry standards
- Works with the industry to improve radiological protection and industrial safety performance
- Participates in the development of industry communications
- Mentors new employees through the radiological protection and chemistry qualification process

- Advanced skills in building and maintaining positive relationships, handling complex conflicts with key stakeholders, and ensuring alignment with INPO’s mission
- Advanced knowledge of INPO/WANO policies, practices and procedures
- Advanced knowledge of error reduction fundamentals as related to radiological protection and industrial safety personnel
- In-depth, comprehensive knowledge of the nuclear utility industry
- Advanced proficiency in solving complex and multifaced problems using data, trends, and analysis to inform decision making
- Advanced ability to use research, analysis, and stakeholder feedback to influence and execute strategies while remaining up to date with industry regulations and compliance standards
- High levels of communication skills to convey complex ideas and strategies in a clear and compelling manner
- Ability to lead functional area and cross-functional teams
- Ability to work and maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive/private information
Education, Licenses, and Certifications
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
- PREFERRED: Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant specialty area
- REQUIRED: Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) certification
- Preferred: Certified Health Physicist
Experience
- Required: Six or more years of professional work experience, Four or more years of experience in a relevant specialty area (radiological protection or health physics), Two years of supervisory or equivalent experience
- PREFERRED: Five or more years of nuclear plant experience, Two years of INPO/WANO evaluation experience, Two years of manager or equivalent experience, Five years of supervisory experience (preferably in RP or chemistry) with at least some experience as a second-line supervisor
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to work under minimal supervision
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and crawl
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds
- Must be able to travel domestically or internationally by plane or car
- Must have a US state or territory issued Real ID compliant driver’s license or identification card
