Senior Estimator - Heavy Civil (Kansas City)

We are seeking a Senior Estimator (Heavy Civil) to lead all levels of estimates and proposals for heavy-civil projects, including engineering contracts, Design-Build Construction, and EPC projects. This role prepares and presents proposals for a diverse portfolio of project types and clients, helping them make fact-based decisions with accurate, credible estimates while minimizing company risk.

Responsibilities

  • Lead estimating strategy and implementation efforts.
  • Assemble labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs to present complete and accurate estimates.
  • Review and approve project summary schedules for validity.
  • Manage workload scheduling to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with estimating methodology to produce quality estimates.
  • Lead project team reviews for estimating quantities and project scope.
  • Review and approve quotes on bonds and insurance.
  • Review requirements related to small and disadvantaged business participation.
  • Review and approve small and disadvantaged business solicitation and evaluations.
  • Lead subcontractor solicitation and pre-qualification reviews.
  • Review and approve specialty and standard equipment pricing.
  • Review and verify subcontractor bid packages before transmission for quotes.
  • Present estimates to internal and external clients.
  • Review the final estimate before management review and proposal presentation.
  • Lead the estimating team for completion of pre-construction services.
  • Manage cost history, database management, and the estimating process.
  • Assist with pricing general conditions, indirect costs, and reviews provided by the project management team.
  • Make final recommendations on fee, contingency, and escalation.
  • Provide man-hour quotes for required estimating effort.
  • Develop strategy on contract partnering agreements.
  • Prepare and lead presentations on estimating data for the risk review process.
  • Verify and approve estimates for joint venture reviews.
  • Review commercial terms and conditions and address risk issues.
  • Review and validate value engineering items, alternates, and options.
  • Ensure the accuracy and validity of estimate clarifications and assumptions.
  • Review documents for gaps and overlaps in scope of work.
  • Train and mentor staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, and 7 years of direct project estimating experience required.
  • Applicable industry experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • Ability to work independently or in groups, think creatively and analytically, and make quick and sound decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, HCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK, Bluebeam, and/or Planswift preferred but not mandatory.
  • OSHA 10-hour certification preferred.
