About the role
Our Eau Claire location is seeking a Senior Estimator to assist in the preparation of the company’s largest and most complex bids by developing accurate estimates, material and labor take-offs, buyout support, logistical plans, and bid proposals while ensuring project goals and budgets are met. This role mentors junior estimators, applies best practices and historical data, interprets RFPs, improves estimating processes, and requires strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills with potential for future leadership growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and management of large, complex estimates, ensuring accuracy across labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and project assumptions.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, RFPs, and bid documents to develop comprehensive estimates and identify unique project requirements, risks, and opportunities.
- Own estimates from initial review through final proposal, including cost analysis, bid strategy, estimate reviews, and executive presentations.
- Develop competitive pricing strategies by evaluating project scope, historical cost data, production methods, procurement options, and market conditions.
- Provide technical guidance on complex estimating challenges and ensure estimates align with company standards and best practices.
- Mentor and support junior estimators by reviewing work, sharing expertise, and improving estimating processes.
- Collaborate with estimating, purchasing, production, and project teams to ensure clear communication and successful bid execution.
- Support change order pricing, special studies, and project planning efforts while maintaining a strong understanding of project requirements and delivery strategies.
- Monitor estimate performance, communicate key assumptions and risks, and assist with overall bid leadership as needed.
Requirements
- 8 to 12 years of experience in estimating, fabrication, or similar manufacturing of heavy civil/bridge projects.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, project data, and contract documents, including AWS, AREMA, AISC COSP, and DOT standards.
- Extensive knowledge of general estimating and engineering principles and the methods of steel fabrication.
- Ability to visualize the assembly process of fabricated pieces and apply labor accordingly based on established rates.
- Understanding of AWS welding symbols.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and MS Project.
- Understanding and proficiency in developing CPM master project proposal schedules.
