Senior Estimator

The Senior Estimator supports the bidding process by developing and preparing cost estimates for projects or services as assigned. This role follows standardized procedures, methods, and processes for estimating, coordinates overall estimates and proposals with the assigned capture team, and presents periodic and final submittals to the regional manager and other corporate representatives for review. The Estimator must exemplify Forgen Core Values, contributing to the culture, growth, and performance of the entire company. Frequent travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Work with an assigned capture team to identify and develop solutions and estimate the resources required for both simple and complex projects.
• Prepare detailed and organized cost estimates using HCSS software and assist with other submittal documents (including schedules, diagrams, work plans, figures, etc.) for proposals that require additional information as part of the bidding process.
• Assess and communicate project risks based on a thorough knowledge of proposal documents.
• Coordinate the preparation of quantity takeoffs from project plans and documents with help from the capture team.
• Understand measurement and payment terms and apply them to the development of an estimate.
• Thoroughly understand drawings and specifications, review them with the capture team, and identify areas of concern that may require additional clarification prior to the bid date.
• Understand how equipment and labor rates are developed and apply them accurately to estimates.
• Help identify ideas that will create competitive advantages over other bidders.
• Coordinate with the capture team to obtain multiple competitive quotes for materials and subcontracted services.
• Prepare ‘high-level’ proposal schedules utilizing critical-path scheduling software.
• Help maintain an updated database of cost information (historical cost analysis of labor and equipment rates).
• Attend pre-bid walks (preconstruction meetings) as needed and utilize comprehensive industry experience to determine the technical needs of the project based upon site restrictions.
• Assemble bid-files (including all development information) that were utilized in preparation of the estimates.
• Create professional relationships and uphold our reputation with clients and partners by interfacing effectively with owners/clients, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Meet deadlines and put in the time needed to complete bids, estimates, and related tasks.
• Provide mentorship to estimating staff and interns.
• Perform additional assignments as directed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
• Eight (8+) years of estimating experience in heavy-civil preferred or similar industries (geotechnical and/or environmental remediation fields).
• Scheduling software experience (Primavera/MS Project) is required.
• Estimating software experience (Bid2Win/B2W, HCSS, or similar) is required.
• Quantity takeoff software experience (Agtek/AutoCAD).
• Skilled in project management and analytical thinking, with strong construction engineering knowledge.
• Motivated, safety-focused, and committed to excellence, ethics, and integrity.
• Strong organizational, time management, and attention to detail, with the ability to meet goals independently.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with proactive and creative decision-making.
• Collaborative team player, responsive to both internal and external stakeholders.
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive on behalf of company business.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience estimating on >$2 Mil projects is preferred.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This office-based role requires frequent computer use and effective communication, with occasional travel to project sites as needed. Site visits may involve extended periods of standing or walking and required PPE, with potential exposure to heavy equipment, chemicals, dust, fumes, uneven terrain, and extreme weather.
