Senior Estimator

Big-D Self-Perform is looking for a dynamic Senior Estimator to join the growing team in Tempe or Salt Lake City. This role will support the preconstruction team by developing accurate, well-organized estimates for concrete scopes and is ideal for an estimator who understands construction documents and seeks growth within a collaborative preconstruction team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or similar degree or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience as an Estimator in the construction industry
• Experience with excavation or earthwork preferred
• Knowledge of the subcontractor network in the Utah and/or Arizona market

Responsibilities

• Defines work scope and selects subcontractors in cooperation with Sr. Estimator
• Develops important relationships with subcontractors and considers the relationship when making decisions
• Proficient in quantity takeoffs
• Proficient in organizing and assembling estimates in Timberline
• Successful in hard bidding projects and organizing scopes of work in bid-day programs
• Becomes proficient in conceptual estimating in Timberline through the CM Process (Program, Schematic, DD, CD, etc.)
• Understands CPM Scheduling and translates it into construction budgets
• Clearly communicates scheduling expectations with subcontractors
• Understands means and methods of construction, including labor productivity rates
• Knows unit costs of construction materials and labor
• Knows overall SF cost of construction for different building types
• Works with Sr. Estimator on design-build projects (conceptual estimating, collaborating with architects, managing budget)
• Understands VE (Value Engineering) process and participates in working sessions
• Calls subcontractors to develop interest in projects
• Understands turnover process and conveys project information comprehensively
• Participates in forecast meetings and tracks budget vs. actual costs through construction
• Learns financial risk management with subcontractor bids
