About the role
We are seeking a Senior Scientist/Ecologist to join our Henderson/Las Vegas, NV office.
Responsibilities
- Conduct/participate in natural resource field investigations, including but not limited to waters of the US; potential habitat for threatened and endangered species; vegetative community; presence/absence surveys, specimen collection and handling; construction monitoring; and stormwater and erosion control monitoring and compliance.
- Prepare technical reports of findings; support preparation of permits and NEPA documents and provide peer reviews of reports prepared by others.
- Is an Authorized Biologist for Mojave Desert Tortoise.
- Serve as an in-field team leader for junior staff and technicians and/or coordinate with other Authorized Biologists.
- Plan field work and coordinate with various parties regarding field work schedules.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and prepare safety documents.
- Maintain field notes and other collected data in an organized manner.
- Communicate study results to project management staff.
- Support proposal scope, technical approaches, and fee estimates.
- Act as an in-field point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and other parties.
- Occasionally work in afternoons/weekends as required by project monitoring needs.
Requirements
- B.S./B.A. or M.S. in a field of Natural Resources such as Wildlife Biology, Botany, Conservation Biology, Ecology. Typically requires 8-10 years of experience with a B.S., or 5-8 years with a M.S.; incumbent typically has 10+ years of experience.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, technical writing, computer and communication skills.
- Experience with identification of waters of the United States (including wetlands); Section 404/401 permitting including Nationwide Permits, related Pre-construction Notifications, Regional General Permits, and possibly Individual Permits.
- Ability to obtain authorization from the USFWS.
- Familiarity with regional flora and fauna.
- Experience with Mojave Desert tortoise surveys as an Authorized Biologist preferred.
- Experience with BLM plant surveys and other rare plant surveys in California and Nevada preferred.
- Experience with impact analysis including NEPA and related documentation.
- Stormwater and erosion compliance experience.
- Wetland and stream condition assessment. Wetland and stream mitigation.
- Basic stream hydrologic principles.
- GIS skills and GPS equipment familiarity.
- A general understanding of one or more of the following industries: infrastructure, transportation, state and local governments, or water quality.
- Prior experience with the Las Angeles and Sacramento District of the USACE and NDOT projects preferred.
- Prior experience with the Walla Walla and Portland/Seattle Districts of the USACE helpful.
- Routine travel is expected.
- Confidence working in harsh and inhospitable outdoor climates in the Western and Southwestern US during all times of the year.
- Maintain a keen awareness of safety protocols in the field and in the office.
- May require use of company vehicle. Incumbent must have a valid driver's license and a driving record meeting company policy.

Pay
Expected compensation range is between $85,000 - $115,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
