Senior Engineering Technician

Overview We are seeking a full-time Senior Engineering Technician at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and modifying advanced developmental and production equipment and systems. Essential Functions Recommends design improvements and changes in assembly methods to improve reliability or simplify assembly and maintenanceServes as expert on lab equipment/tools, including maintaining lab test fixtures and apparatus and may design test fixture improvements using standard or automated tools (LabView, Visual Basic)Writes technical reports, including documentation of the test setup and blocks diagrams to fully document test results and analysisSets up, runs and completes detailed qualification plans and reportsServes as a mentor to Engineering Lab Assistants and Engineering Technicians including sharing knowledge on lab tools/processes/proceduresPerforms moderately complex troubleshooting with minimal inputDocuments moderately complex test plans and reports to ensure reproducibilityIndependently manages time to ensure high quality and quantity of work completedDemonstrates a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashionIdentifies and resolves problems of advanced scope using proper engineering tools and techniquesIndependently determines general approach and specific solutions to technical problemsApplies Garmin’s Mission Statement, Vision, Values and Quality Policy and exhibits enthusiasm for and a desire to see Garmin succeed Basic Qualifications Associate’s Degree in Electronics Technology, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a substantially similar field OR electronics related Military training OR completion of a minimum of 80 hours towards a BS degree in Electronics Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or substantially related field OR current ISCET certification or related certification AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in addition to any one of the above education options OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experienceExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)Must demonstrate expert proficiency using lab equipment and tools including ability to efficiently create test setups and advanced level designsDemonstrates full use of design standards and procedures and advanced knowledge of product test plans and proceduresProficiency working with MS Office Suite, specifically Word & ExcelDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsMust be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with othersDriven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problemsExcellent time management and follow-up skillsMust possess the ability to: bend, twist and lift up to 50 lbs. and team lift up to 100 lbs. while using safe lifting techniques; push/pull test equipment on wheeled, moveable racks of up to 400 lbs.; stand for extended periods of time, climb and utilize ladders to connect cables; and walk long distances throughout the facilityDemonstrated understanding of advanced level schematic designs and designs of test circuits (Electrical role only)Demonstrates understanding of electrical engineering/software system interactions and can differentiate between hardware and software problems (Electrical role only) Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
