About the role

The Senior Engineering Manager at Agoda will lead multiple teams or a large engineering organization, driving technical direction, organizational scale, and business impact. This role focuses more on leading managers, shaping strategy, and driving cross-team execution. The opportunity includes leading teams working on fintech-related platforms and transaction-heavy systems, including areas connected to payments, financial operations, and other business-critical services where scalability, resilience, security, and reliability are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple engineering teams or a large organization.
  • Manage Engineering Managers, senior engineers, and technical leaders.
  • Drive strategic, cross-team initiatives and major engineering programs.
  • Set the technical roadmap and align it with business goals.
  • Partner with senior leadership, including Directors, VPs, and C-level stakeholders.
  • Develop engineering leaders through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Hire and scale high-performing teams and leadership talent.
  • Strengthen engineering culture through quality, ownership, and data-driven decisions.
  • Drive organizational excellence across backend, platform, data, and fintech-related engineering domains.
  • Oversee the delivery of scalable, reliable, and secure systems that support high-volume, business-critical, and transaction-intensive workloads.

Requirements

  • Experience managing large engineering teams (>25 people).
  • Experience hiring and managing engineering managers.
  • Experience developing future engineering managers from within the company.
  • Experience rapidly growing a team.
  • Experience communicating to C-level.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing engineering teams, 10+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Demonstrable experience as a system owner with operational responsibility.
  • Able to operate with autonomy: making decisions, setting KPIs, with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Extremely proficient in at least one programming language (React, Javascript, Kotlin, Scala, Java, C#).
  • Knowledge in scale, microservices and clean architecture.
  • A focus on velocity and quality, along with the right engineering metrics to guide and improve these.

Qualifications

  • Minimum a B.S. in Computer Science or quantitative field;
  • Proficiency in range of backend programming languages.
  • Experience in data engineering.
  • Have experience managing in a data driven company with experience analyzing and working with Big Data.
  • A key player at an Internet company that is at scale with large numbers of users and transactions per second.
  • Worked on global projects serving world markets with distributed data centers.
  • Experience in Fintech / Financial Systems
