SENIOR ENGINEERING AIDE

Description

The Dougherty County Public Works department is hiring for a Senior Engineering Aide. The purpose of this position is to assist the Project Engineer in conducting land and property surveys, to include construction project layouts and inspections of in-progress construction projects.

Essential Tasks

• Meets with contractors for Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) projects and City utility crews for projects.
• Prepares daily priority project list and operates survey equipment for all County projects.
• Counsels property research to determine property owners and property dimensions.
• Plans work schedules with contractors and County work crews daily.
• Directs work crews to the correct locations; prepares the work and contract area and provides necessary information to the contractor.
• Locates utilities and records information in field books for later usage.
• Performs various administrative duties including completing necessary reports, responding to questions from the public, and typing and filing documents.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualification

• A High School Diploma or GED equivalent and specialized training in surveying or closely related field.
• Two (2) years of engineering or construction related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

• Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
  • Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to: Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen; Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions; Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife; Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors; Traffic; Moving machinery.
  • Special Certifications And Licenses: Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
