About the role

The Senior Water Resources Engineer, Supervisory, leads the Engineering Support Unit within the Systemwide Multibenefit Initiatives Branch, Systemwide Engineering Section. This role oversees a team of three in planning, design, and implementation of major and smaller multi-benefit projects across California’s Central Valley. Projects integrate flood risk reduction with ecosystem enhancement, agricultural sustainability, and recreation, requiring a balanced approach that considers climate change and sustainability of the flood system.

The Engineering Support Unit assists with technical work and project management, including civil engineering designs and analyses for setback levee projects and other floodplain initiatives. The position demands collaboration with diverse partners, including State, federal, and local agencies, as well as effective communication across organizational units and disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of three engineers in planning, design, and implementation of multi-benefit water resource projects.
  • Perform technical engineering work and project management for small and large projects, including setback levee and floodplain projects.
  • Develop and review civil engineering designs and analyses to ensure integration of flood risk reduction, ecosystem enhancement, agricultural sustainability, and recreation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, including State, federal, and local agencies, to advance project goals.
  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and leadership to team members, fostering professional growth and effective project execution.
  • Ensure projects account for climate change impacts and sustainability of the flood system.

Requirements

  • Broad understanding of engineering practices related to flood systems and ecosystem restoration.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Supervisory experience, including team leadership and mentorship of less experienced staff.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration across disciplines and with diverse stakeholders.

Pay

Salary range: $11,437.00 – $14,315.00 per month.

Schedule

  • Permanent, full-time position.
  • Hybrid work arrangement.
  • Work location: Sacramento County.
