Senior Engineer - Substation
About the role
To provide comprehensive engineering design services for substation facilities, and to ensure that these facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations. Provides leadership, training, and direction to fellow staff members. Works independently to develop economical, technically feasible, reliable substation physical and control designs with direct supervision and guidance.
Responsibilities
- Develops economical, technically feasible, reliable substation physical and control designs with direct supervision and guidance.
- Provides accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified.
- Directs the engineering and drawing production of electrical designs for SPR water facilities (Applies to Reno location only).
- Coordinates and communicates with other departments such that total project schedules and expenditures are maintained in accordance with commitments.
- Provides input for development of detailed project schedules and updates project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned.
- Maintains project expenditures through cost control such that project commitments are met.
- Ensures quality control on assigned projects by providing construction support as needed, including coordination with construction forces and job site inspections.
- Assists and guides other departments and districts in solving non-standard or complex substation design problems based upon level of experience.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineering License
- 10-15 Years or Substation Design Related Experience
Qualifications
- Demonstrated excellence in substation/control engineering principals.
- Comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge.
- Significant knowledge of economic analysis methods, budgeting procedures, and company policies, rules and regulations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of utility engineering practices and procedures, construction methods and material specifications.
- High level of independent decision-making and originality.
- Ability to direct, coordinate, and review the work of a staff of engineers, technicians, and designers.
- May assign and review work of other department staff.

- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
- Proficient in engineering software and tools.
