Senior Engineer - Search

Impact Shipt is seeking a Senior Engineer to join the Search team, focusing on designing, developing, and deploying multi-region, high-performance search services using Golang, Elasticsearch, Kafka, and GCP. Collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team to drive search relevance, tune ranking algorithms, and deliver real-world products to customers nationwide.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy scalable, high-performance search services in a multi-region architecture.
• Take independent ownership of production search services, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Drive search relevance and improve ranking algorithms for e-commerce applications.
• Lead large-scale information retrieval projects, including query understanding and autocomplete functionality.
• Identify and resolve system bottlenecks in distributed architectures, improving code and database query performance.
• Apply SOLID principles and functional/object-oriented paradigms to build persistent data models and asynchronous messaging pipelines.
• Mentor other engineers and drive technical decisions through metrics and data analysis.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of software development experience, with a proven ability to independently design, deploy, and maintain scalable microservices and REST APIs.
• Experience leading large-scale information retrieval projects, particularly in e-commerce search relevance, using Lucene-based engines like Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Solr.
• Hands-on experience resolving system bottlenecks in distributed, multi-region architectures using Golang, Ruby, or Python, alongside databases like Postgres, DynamoDB, and Redis.
• Strong background in system architecture, including building asynchronous messaging pipelines with Kafka or similar technologies.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, including autonomously monitoring complex production environments and mentoring engineers.

Pay

Pay Range: $95,800 - $150,000. Individual total compensation varies based on qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location.

Schedule

This role is hybrid, with flexibility to work from home (with leader approval) or at a Shipt office in Birmingham, San Francisco, or Minneapolis. In-office expectations vary by role and leader.
