Senior Engineer - Search

Impact Shipt is seeking a Senior Engineer to join the Search team. You’ll design, develop, and deploy multi-region, high-performance search services using Golang, Elasticsearch, Kafka, and GCP alongside a collaborative, cross-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Take independent ownership of production search services, driving search relevance and tuning ranking algorithms to deliver real-world products to customers nationwide.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices and REST APIs in a distributed, multi-region architecture.
• Lead large-scale information retrieval projects, including e-commerce search relevance, query understanding, and autocomplete functionality using Lucene-based engines like Elasticsearch.
• Identify and resolve system bottlenecks, improving poor-performing code and database queries in distributed systems.
• Apply SOLID principles and functional/object-oriented paradigms to build highly persisted data models and asynchronous messaging pipelines with Kafka or similar technologies.
• Monitor complex production environments, drive implementation decisions through metrics, and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of software development experience, demonstrating the ability to independently design, deploy, and maintain scalable microservices and REST APIs.
• Proven success leading large-scale information retrieval projects, specifically involving e-commerce search relevance, query understanding, and autocomplete functionality.
• Hands-on experience resolving system bottlenecks in distributed, multi-region architectures using Golang, Ruby, or Python, alongside Postgres, DynamoDB, and Redis.
• Strong background in system architecture, utilizing SOLID principles and functional/object-oriented paradigms.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, including autonomously monitoring production environments and driving implementation decisions through metrics.

Pay

Pay Range: $95,800 – $150,000. Individual total compensation varies based on qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location.

Schedule

Hybrid role for candidates located near a Shipt office or workspace in Birmingham, San Francisco, or Minneapolis. In-office expectations vary by role and leader; some roles may require full-time in-office presence.
