About the role
The Senior Engineer, R&D QDC leads and executes moderately complex research and development activities for Quick Disconnect Coupling technologies used in Data Center and Fluid Conveyance applications. This role drives technology work packages from concept evaluation through feasibility testing, prototyping, and validation, while providing technical recommendations that support new product development (NPD), continuous product evolution (CPE), and strategic technology roadmaps.
Responsibilities
- Lead R&D work packages involving concept evaluation, feasibility studies, prototyping, simulation, testing, and validation of QDC technologies.
- Plan and coordinate engineering activities, including test plans, prototype requirements, schedules, deliverables, and technical investigations.
- Develop and execute experiments, analyze results, document findings, and recommend next steps based on technical evidence.
- Support prototype builds, material trials, sealing evaluations, cleanliness investigations, pressure and leak testing, and performance assessments.
- Serve as a technical lead or contributor on medium-sized R&D projects and multiple technology investigations.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including risk assessments, design notes, test reports, trade-off analyses, and feasibility summaries.
- Identify technical risks, knowledge gaps, improvement opportunities, industry trends, and intellectual property (IP) opportunities.
- Collaborate with R&D, test labs, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and project stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
- Support invention disclosures and documentation of innovative concepts, materials, methods, and technologies.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers and technicians on R&D methodologies, testing practices, and technical problem-solving.
- Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, technical discussions, external collaborations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Product Engineering, Engineering Science, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Experience in R&D, product development, testing, prototyping, fluid conveyance, thermal management, couplings, connectors, pressure-boundary components, or similar engineered products.
- Proven ability to lead technical projects, coordinate cross-functional activities, and provide engineering recommendations with minimal supervision.
- Experience with structured problem-solving, data analysis, DFSS, Lean methodologies, testing, and engineering documentation preferred.
- Knowledge of innovation processes, intellectual property, technical publications, and external technical collaborations is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for reports, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.
Technical Requirements
- Strong foundation in mechanical engineering, product design, materials, testing methods, measurement systems, prototype development, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of QDC technologies, sealing systems, pressure integrity, leak performance, flow performance, cleanliness requirements, reliability, and Data Center applications.
- Ability to plan experiments, analyze data, assess risks, determine root causes, and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Working knowledge of DFSS, Lean, engineering change processes, safety practices, confidentiality requirements, IP awareness, and documentation control.
- Experience using engineering software, CAD tools, testing equipment, data analysis tools, spreadsheets, and standard business applications.
