Senior Engineer I, Electromechanics / Mechanical Design
Mission
Schneider Electric is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Product Innovation team. Reporting to the Director of Product Innovation, this role will lead the conceptualization, design, and development of innovative cooling technologies that support next-generation data center, AI, HPC, and critical infrastructure applications. The successful candidate will serve as a mechanical design technical expert, driving innovation across liquid cooling solutions, heat exchangers, coolant distribution systems, and advanced thermal management technologies. This position will play a key role in defining the product roadmap, assessing technical feasibility, mentoring engineering talent, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring innovative products from concept through commercialization.
What Will You Do?
Product Innovation & Concept Development
- Lead the ideation, conceptualization, and development of innovative cooling systems and technologies for data center applications.
- Design and develop solutions including: Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx), Liquid-to-Liquid Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), Liquid-to-Air Cooling Systems, Fluid Distribution Manifolds, Chillers, Direct-to-Chip Cooling Solutions, Single-Phase and Two-Phase Liquid Cooling Technologies.
- Generate and evaluate multiple design concepts using sketches, CAD models, engineering analysis, and prototype development.
- Drive innovation initiatives that align with market demands, customer requirements, and emerging technologies.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the subject matter expert for mechanical and thermal design within the Product Innovation organization.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and designers.
- Support engineering reviews and ensure adherence to best practices throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Advise leadership on technical feasibility, product architecture, manufacturability, reliability, and cost optimization.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Product Management, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Sales teams to develop innovative product solutions.
- Translate customer and market requirements into practical and scalable engineering designs.
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to validate design concepts and support commercialization efforts.
- Contribute to technology and product roadmaps by identifying future opportunities and emerging cooling technologies.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Stay current on advancements in data center cooling, AI infrastructure, thermal management, and liquid cooling technologies.
- Explore and evaluate emerging technologies including immersion cooling and advanced two-phase cooling systems.
- Support intellectual property development through innovative engineering concepts and patentable designs.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or related field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- PhD preferred.
Experience
- 15+ years of mechanical design and product development experience.
- 10+ years of experience in data center cooling, thermal management systems, or related high-performance cooling technologies.
- Proven track record of developing complex engineering concepts and commercialized product designs.
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering programs from concept to launch.
Technical Expertise
- Deep knowledge of data center cooling technologies and industry best practices.
- Expertise in: Single-phase liquid cooling, Two-phase cooling technologies, Direct-to-chip cooling, Immersion cooling, Heat exchanger design, Thermal management systems, Fluid distribution systems.
- Extensive experience with structural mechanical design of data center cooling products.
- Experience selecting and integrating: Valves, Hoses, Plumbing components, Structural materials, Thermal interface materials, Cabling and connectors, Electromechanical components.
Software & Tools
- Advanced proficiency with: SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office 365, Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Regulatory & Industry Knowledge
- Knowledge of: ASHRAE TC 9.9, Telcordia Standards, UL Standards, International Product Safety Standards, FCC Regulations, EMC Compliance Requirements, RoHS and WEEE Environmental Standards.

Pay & Benefits
For this U.S. based position, the expected pay range is USD 101,600 - USD 152,400 per year. This pay range includes base pay and short-term incentives. Individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
