About the role
The Mechanical Facilities Engineer plays a crucial role in the design, construction, and optimization of mechanical systems supporting semiconductor manufacturing facilities. This role involves leading and supporting the planning, design, construction, and commissioning of mechanical systems for U.S. Greenfield FAB projects. The engineer will collaborate with various departments to ensure that facilities systems meet current and future manufacturing requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the planning, design, construction, and commissioning of mechanical systems for U.S. Greenfield FAB projects, ensuring safe, cost-effective, and high-quality project execution.
- Develop and review engineering designs, specifications, standards, and procedures for mechanical systems including HVAC, exhaust and abatement systems, vacuum systems, process chilled water, natural gas, and central utility systems.
- Collaborate with global, regional, and site partners across Facilities, Manufacturing, Construction, Procurement, IT, Operations, and external partners to achieve project objectives.
- Provide technical guidance of design reviews, construction activities, change management processes, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Support capacity planning, infrastructure assessments, and scenario modeling to ensure facilities systems meet current and future manufacturing requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by finding opportunities to enhance system performance, reliability, energy efficiency, sustainability, and total cost of ownership.
- Serve as a mechanical systems authority, providing technical guidance, problem-solving support, benchmarking, and lessons learned across Micron’s global network.
- Contribute to global facilities programs, sustainability initiatives, and the development of standards, specifications, and Best Known Methods (BKMs) to promote consistency and operational excellence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 7+ years of experience in facilities engineering, design, construction, operations, or maintenance within semiconductor manufacturing or other complex high-tech industrial environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, including HVAC, exhaust and abatement systems, vacuum systems, process cooling systems, and central utilities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-functional projects, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively with technical and business partners.
- Experience using data analytics, digital tools, and AI-enabled technologies to improve engineering efficiency, decision-making, and operational performance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering subject area.
- Experience supporting Greenfield semiconductor FAB development or large-scale industrial infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of sustainability programs, environmental design principles, and energy optimization strategies.
- Familiarity with global engineering standards, reliability programs, and facilities operational standard processes.
