About the role
The Toyota Production Engineering (PE)-Battery Manufacturing Engineering (BME) Battery Cell Department is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead planning and problem-solving efforts in pre-production trial activities. The role supports the department's mission to improve competitiveness through safety, people development, and customer focus.
Responsibilities
- Leader of cross-functional team collaborating with equipment engineers and resolving material, product, and process issues both internally and externally
- Create and implement working/trial plans for confirmation and problem-solving activities using Toyota Business Practice methods (TBP) or equivalent Lean practices
- Develop and maintain detailed technical and summary reports for organizational learning and development
- Contribute to process and equipment plans/specifications for kaizen and issue reoccurrence prevention
- Manage individual activities, track status, and reflect on performance
- Support the development of the PE-BME Department's Hoshin and overall direction for organizational advancement
- Mentor and teach other team members on battery knowledge, trial planning, and execution, data analysis, and Toyota principles
- Drive personal development, seek feedback, and monitor progress
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or a similar technical field
- 5+ years of equivalent Engineering role experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in manufacturing production preparation roles and schedule/deliverable management
- Experience in cathode/anode powder transfer, slurry mixing, coating, and calendaring of foils on large-scale cells or research-size cells
- Experience coordinating with various functions in large corporate organizations, including production engineering, manufacturing, research and development, and quality
- Ability to interpret and apply product/process specifications, drawings, and data, including handling new materials and change point management
Qualifications
- Experience in application of Toyota Production System
- Documented problem-solving certifications or activities such as Toyota Business Practice (TBP), Fault Tree Analysis, or similar
- Experience in product/process/equipment simultaneous engineering for new models
- Experience in data analytics tools and methods
- Experience in digital engineering software tools and procedures, including the ability to read, interpret, and modify model data
Skills
- Japanese language proficiency including verbal and written skills
