About the role
This role partners with business stakeholders to define, implement, and govern data quality requirements across multiple subject areas, ensuring data is fit for business use and regulatory needs. The position sits between business teams and engineers, translating ambiguous business needs into precise, testable rules and driving adoption of a decentralized data quality program.
Responsibilities
- Backlog: Define data quality requirements by business function and subject area, including critical data elements, quality thresholds, severity, and ownership. Document cross-entity correlation rules and subject-area quality scores tied to business readiness (e.g., readiness for new product development). Prioritize the rule backlog with Data Quality Engineers, balancing business impact, regulatory importance, and engineering effort.
- Validation: Validate implemented rules with business stakeholders before deployment to ensure alignment with intended business outcomes.
- Traceability: Maintain traceability between business requirements, implemented rules, and the systems they cover.
- Steward Enablement: Onboard and train Business Data Stewards on decentralized alert triage, including interpreting and resolving alerts in DQLabs. Develop steward-facing materials such as triage guides, escalation paths, and FAQs.
- Program Oversight: Monitor steward network health by tracking alert response/resolution rates, identifying stale alerts, and escalating unresolved issues. Gather steward feedback on rule quality and usability to inform tuning by Data Quality Engineers.
- Reporting & Adoption: Shape subject-area dashboards and recurring leadership reports on program effectiveness (quality scores, rule coverage, alert trends, triage responsiveness). Drive adoption by engaging business consumers, gathering feedback, and demonstrating value. Support change management through communications, onboarding, and stakeholder engagement.
- Communication: Translate program status, wins, and gaps into business-friendly terms for stakeholders at all levels.
Requirements
- 3+ years in business analyst, data analyst, or similar roles with direct stakeholder-facing requirements gathering.
- 1+ year exposure to data quality, data governance, or data management initiatives preferred.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business language into precise, testable requirements, including cross-entity correlation rules.
- Working SQL skills sufficient to independently explore data, validate assumptions, and communicate credibly with engineers.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills; comfortable working live with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Organizational and follow-through skills to manage a backlog, track commitments across stakeholders, and keep distributed processes on track.
- Experience producing clear documentation and stakeholder-facing reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Computer Science.
