About the role
Battelle is seeking a Senior Energetics Engineer IV within the Advanced Materials and Energetics (AME) Division, working with the High Energy Research Lab Area (HERLA) in West Jefferson, OH. This position supports current client programs, develops new business, and mentors staff. It also involves setting and achieving strategic goals, business planning, and business growth.
Responsibilities
- Execute existing contracts supporting various government clients related to energetic materials chemistry, novel energetic diagnostic development, munition component development, low-rate initial production, energetic material performance testing, and other emerging technologies.
- Acts as delegate range safety officer (RSO).
- Reviews and approves, as necessary, test safety plans, work instructions, and other operational documents in accordance with Battelle (or client) requirements.
- Supports the team on upkeep of facilities, staff training, and business growth strategies.
- Works with Program Managers and Business Development to leverage client relationships to stay informed of client business plans and priorities and identify high growth/value opportunities for Battelle with our various clients.
- Supports business development efforts led by others and maintains business interactions with external clients.
- Contributes to IR&D studies. Works on projects involving innovative methods or applications. Leads invention disclosures and provides key inputs to a patent application. May provide inputs for new areas of business.
- Trains lower-level staff to improve technical development. Coordinates and provides day-to-day work direction to lower-level staff to support overall project goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field; minimum of 10 years of technical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in management of hazardous operations, knowledge or management of energetics RDT&E.
- Significant experience with munitions/explosives research, development, and/or test and evaluation.
- Specific experience with warhead development, qualification and deployment.
- Knowledge and experience with industrial manufacturing of energetics.
- Awareness of key manufacturing facilities and capabilities throughout US Domestic Manufacturing.
- Excellent oral and communication skills to effectively interact with higher management internally and with client organizations, subcontractors, consultants, and staff.
- Experience working with Department of War, National Laboratories, and Intelligence Community clients, including leading/writing proposals, proposal and bidding processes, awards, and execution.
- U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position desires an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment and the ability to access US only data systems.
- DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain.
