The Role
The Senior Employee Benefits Analyst serves as a lead analytical resource for public sector clients, responsible for delivering advanced financial analysis, strategic reporting, and data-driven insights across complex employee benefit programs.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex renewal analyses across all lines of coverage, including non-market and negotiated plans.
- Evaluate claims experience, utilization trends, and financial performance to identify risks, opportunities, and cost drivers.
- Develop strategic, data-driven recommendations that support long-term benefits planning and funding strategies.
- Lead the development and execution of Request for Proposal (RFP) processes for assigned clients.
- Analyze and compare carrier proposals, identifying competitive positioning and financial impact.
- Support and actively participate in carrier negotiations in partnership with the Benefits Consultant.
- Develop and deliver advanced financial and management reporting (scheduled and ad hoc).
- Present renewal analyses, performance results, and recommendations to client staff, committees, and leadership groups.
- Translate complex financial and healthcare data into clear, concise, and client-focused insights.
- Partner with the Benefits Consultants in the strategic planning and design of client benefit programs.
- Support ongoing decision-making and plan optimization for assigned clients.
- Contribute to the evaluation and recommendation of new services, vendors, or program enhancements.
- Review and interpret compliance requirements including 112.08 filings, OPEB reporting, and imputed income analysis.
- Ensure analyses incorporate applicable regulatory and legislative considerations (e.g., ACA, COBRA, healthcare reform).
- Support due diligence, compliance reviews, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Create financial reports for all funding arrangements, including fully insured and self-funded plans.
- Mentor and guide Analysts on financial modeling, reporting standards, and analytical techniques.
- Review work for accuracy, consistency, and quality prior to client delivery.
- Support onboarding and training of new analytical team members.
- Collaborate with Client Services, Consultants, carriers, and vendors to ensure aligned execution and client outcomes.
- Contribute to process improvements, standardization efforts, and analytical best practices.
Requirements
Successful Candidates Will Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics, Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in employee benefits, analytics, brokerage, or consulting.
- Advanced experience with: Renewal and financial analysis, Claims and utilization reporting, RFP development and carrier evaluations.
- Strong knowledge of: Fully insured and self-funded benefit plans, Employee benefits regulations (ACA, COBRA, etc.).
- Public sector experience preferred.
