Key Responsibilities
- Architect, design, develop, and test embedded software and firmware for complex, real-time systems.
- Collaborate with customers, systems engineers, and cross-functional teams to define software functionality and technical solutions.
- Translate system and software requirements into scalable software architecture, detailed designs, and high-quality code.
- Develop embedded applications using C/C++ for resource-constrained environments.
- Design and implement communication protocols, device drivers, APIs, and embedded algorithms.
- Execute software integration, verification, validation, and debugging across simulation, laboratory, and hardware environments.
- Ensure software meets performance, reliability, safety, and cybersecurity requirements.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, design artifacts, and test plans throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, technical planning, estimation, and mentoring of engineering teams.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying innovative technical solutions and engineering best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or another STEM discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in embedded software development (or Master's degree with 5+ years of experience).
- Strong programming experience in C and/or C++.
- Experience developing software for real-time embedded systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with one or more of the following: RTOS (Linux, FreeRTOS, QNX, VxWorks) Bare-metal embedded software Multithreading, multicore processing, distributed systems, BSPs, device drivers, and APIs Python, Perl, Tcl, or other scripting languages Git, SVN, CVS, Perforce, or other version control tools Ada programming language Embedded software debugging using GDB, LLDB, JTAG, UART, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other lab equipment FPGA integration and hardware/software co-design Model-Based Engineering (Cameo)
- Experience developing software for aerospace, defense, automotive, medical devices, industrial automation, or other safety-critical systems.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and technical leadership skills.
