About the role

Thompson Software Solutions is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to support the development of advanced software systems for a military aircraft platform. This role involves using a wide range of technical principles, theories, and concepts to develop, integrate, and test software products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate, and test software products for mission-critical avionics and embedded capabilities.
  • Collaborate with other software engineers, program development, and deployment teams.
  • Work independently on projects as needed.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of safety-critical software systems.
  • Participate in flight software development, software integration, and test activities in both lab and hardware environments.
  • Ensure compliance with DO-178C standards for safety-critical software development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of embedded software development experience
  • C++ development for safety-critical avionics systems
  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (MOSA.ic, VxWorks, Integrity)
  • Embedded application development in Linux (Yocto/RHEL), Windows, and Bare Metal environments
  • Flight Software Development Experience
  • Software integration & test in lab and hardware environments
  • Ability to work onsite 100%
  • Ability to travel 10%

Qualifications

  • Self-motivated with strong work ethic and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

Skills

  • Proficient with Atlassian Tools (Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket, etc.)
  • Version control and issue tracking (Gitlab, Atlassian suite)
  • FPGA Software Experience (Xilinx FPGAs and Vivado)
  • Experience with Xilinx/AMD and MicroSemi/Microchip part families internal FPGA fabric and IP
  • Test automation and verification frameworks
  • Proficient in Python development (for tooling, automation, and simulation support)
  • Familiarity with Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools (Cameo)
  • Digital simulation (SIL/MIL/HIL) and closed-loop testing
  • Experience with Hardware/software integration and troubleshooting
  • Experience with safety-critical software development and practices (DO-178C)
  • Experience with Navigation, Guidance and Control Implementation
  • Experience with Signal Processing Implementation
  • Ability to communicate and document complex technical designs
