Amphenol Communications Solutions (ACS), a division of Amphenol Corporation, is a world leader in interconnect solutions for Communications, Mobile, RF, Optics, and Commercial electronics markets. Amphenol Corporation is one of the world’s largest designers and manufacturers of electrical, electronic and fiber optic connectors and interconnect systems, antennas, sensors and sensor-based products and coaxial and high-speed specialty cable. ACS has an expansive global presence in research and development, manufacturing, and sales.

Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, high bandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks, Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEMs globally. Cable Backplane Systems (CBS) develops and manufactures passive copper cable solutions using our twin-ax cable and backplane interconnect technologies. The cable assemblies replace traditional printed circuit boards and are used in AI compute servers racks, director switches and other datacenter applications.

About the role

The Senior Test Engineer will have a hands-on approach to designing and developing test processes, plans, and methodologies. This is an opportunity to join a rapidly expanding and highly talented technical team working for an industry-leading interconnect company. This team of product and process development engineers is working on leading edge custom high-speed cable systems and assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Global ownership of high-speed test, including bit error rate test (BERT), optical test, electrical and optical eye diagram, jitter characterization, TDR, VNA, etc.
  • Work closely with Amphenol development engineering, worldwide factories, and customers to develop, deploy, and control cable assembly high speed testing.
  • Responsible for engineering verification test (EVT) and design verification test (DVT) planning; generate and execute EVT and DVT plans; generate and publish EVT and DVT reports.
  • Work closely with hardware engineer and firmware engineer on product performance and firmware validation.
  • High Speed test system development: develop next generation testing solutions that support our product roadmap requirements.
  • Requires 'voice of the customer' work to understand the test requirements from a product design and customer application point of view.
  • The scope of work would include test equipment selection, close involvement with software development, system integration and documentation; software and GUI may or may not be developed in house.

  • Lead process, design, and supplier improvement efforts to optimize SI performance for cable assemblies.
  • Diagnose failures; perform failure analysis and corrective actions of internal and customer test failures - including correlation analysis of customer findings to internal test data, it also includes working with mechanical and signal integrity test labs to facilitate failure analysis.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree required; BS or MS in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience working in Electrical Engineering or related field (e.g. RF / Antenna test).
  • Experience with various high speed testing equipment (e.g. TDR, VNA/ENA).
  • In-depth understanding of signal integrity a plus.
  • Experience working closely with product design and process development teams in a collaborative effort to design and deploy test programs.
  • Strong customer-facing and relationship building skills; track record of successfully collaborating with customers and suppliers.
