ManufacturingFull-time

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks—from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies. We aim to be Earth's most customer-centric company, pushing the state of the art in space-based systems design.

About the role

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Electrical Engineer to join our avionics development team, building critical components for Amazon Leo satellites. This role combines superb technical and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to deliver hardware. Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end delivery of satellite avionics subsystems, from architecture and requirements through production ramp, in partnership with peer engineers.
  • Lead system and subsystem architecture, translating mission requirements into manufacturable hardware designs.
  • Drive circuit design, analysis, and ECAD schematic capture to meet performance and reliability targets.
  • Lead hardware design reviews (architecture, schematic, PCB layout) and set the technical bar for design quality.
  • Develop and execute bring-up, verification, and qualification test strategies.
  • Lead debugging and root cause resolution across development, qualification, and production, working closely with design and test engineers.
  • Establish requirements, traceability, and verification frameworks for hardware subsystems.
  • Lead production readiness and ramp, including test strategy, yield improvement, and issue resolution.
  • Influence cross-functional teams (systems, firmware, manufacturing, test, suppliers) to deliver program milestones.
  • Act as a technical leader, raising engineering standards and developing other engineers.

A day in the life

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will design and test systems supporting satellite avionics. You will lead work across the full lifecycle—from component selection and schematic design through layout review, bring-up, validation, and system integration. You will define requirements, drive high-quality hardware designs, and ensure robust execution from development into production. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will solve complex problems in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, contributing to engineering standards across the organization.

About the team

Our team delivers production hardware subsystems for satellite avionics. We take ownership and work hard to deliver the highest quality solutions to support Amazon Leo’s long-term success. The team consists of diverse technical backgrounds, and we welcome individuals excited to help deliver broadband internet to underserved communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • 5+ years of experience developing hardware across the full product lifecycle (concept through production at scale).
  • Experience with PCB design and debug, including processors, FPGAs, power supplies, and sensors.
  • Experience with complex board designs (e.g., high-speed interfaces, power electronics, or high-reliability systems).
  • Experience using ECAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience driving hardware through bring-up, validation, and integration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects.
  • 7+ years of experience developing hardware in aerospace, automotive, or similar high-reliability environments.
  • Experience with satellite, avionics, or vehicle control systems.
  • Experience with system integration into complex electromechanical assemblies or enclosures.
  • Experience with radiation-tolerant design or qualification for harsh environments.
  • Experience developing test systems or automation (e.g., Python, C/C++).
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or similar system-level test methodologies.
  • Experience with low-level firmware development and hardware/software integration.
