Senior Electrical Engineer, Radio Frequency (RF)
YOUR MISSION
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, RF at True Anomaly, you will lead the design of integrated RF subsystems and drive technical decision-making across multiple spacecraft programs. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will resolve technical ambiguity, lead cross-team delivery efforts, and serve as a technical mentor who raises the engineering bar across teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead design of integrated RF subsystems across multiple frequency bands; drive trade-offs in the solution space
- Lead trade studies between modulation schemes, coding rates, bandwidth, and power efficiency for space communication systems
- Define and execute full RF test campaigns, including EMI/EMC validation
- Champion design robustness; ensure streamlined execution across design and test phases
- Balance RF performance, cost, and risk trade-offs across mechanical, software, power, and thermal domains
- Lead cross-team delivery efforts; manage technical dependencies and program milestones
- Drive requirements capture, analysis (QoS, link budgets, antenna patterns, compatibility), and documentation across comm system designs
- Oversee integration of RF components—SDRs, antennas, amplifiers, filters, mixers, oscillators—into spacecraft systems
- Support payload analysis and integration including radar and complex RF systems
- Mentor peers and junior engineers; shape and raise technical standards across teams
- Manage ambiguity on projects; set checkpoints and communicate effectively across teams
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred)
- 7–10 years of experience in RF system design and development for aerospace applications
- Demonstrated experience leading RF subsystem design and integration across multiple bands
- Experience with link optimization, modulation/coding selection, and antenna coverage analysis
- Experience with LEO, MEO, GEO, or deep space satellite missions
- Hands-on experience with RF test equipment and leading RF test campaigns
- Proficiency in RF simulation tools (MATLAB, HFSS, FEKO, CST, or similar)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to align and influence across teams
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
- Experience with software-defined radios (SDRs) in space communication applications
- EMI/EMC experience at the component and system level
- Knowledge of space communication protocols (CCSDS or similar)
- Experience with regulatory filing committees and processes
- Familiarity with launch vehicles, missile defense applications, and integration environments
- Experience with encryption algorithms, preferably NSA Type 1
- Experience in a startup or fast-paced engineering environment
COMPENSATION
Compensation range: $150,000 - $220,000
Benefits include Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work Location—Successful candidates will be located near Long Beach, CA.
- Physical demands—the physical demands of the job, including bending, sitting, lifting and driving.
