About the Role

ETAP is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with deep expertise in Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Interconnection Studies within the power grid. The successful candidate will lead modeling, simulation, and technical analyses for interconnections involving utility-scale renewable generation, battery energy storage, and conventional generation across both transmission and distribution networks. This role also contributes to the development of next-generation tools that address the growing challenges of renewable integration and grid reliability. The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience leading utility-scale interconnection projects across the U.S., with strong technical judgment, in-depth understanding of ISO/RTO procedures, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality studies and obtaining regulatory approvals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate detailed models for renewable generation, battery storage, and distributed resources.
  • Lead and perform interconnection studies for both transmission and distribution systems, including:
    • Power flow and voltage profile analysis
    • Short-circuit and protection coordination
    • Dynamic and transient stability studies
    • Harmonic and power quality studies
  • Conduct studies using and cross-verifying results from multiple software platforms such as ETAP, PSSE, PSCAD, PSLF and TSAT.
  • Coordinate with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and developers to ensure compliance with U.S. interconnection requirements (e.g., FERC, NERC, IEEE, state utility standards).
  • Prepare comprehensive study reports, technical memoranda, and client presentations summarizing results and recommendations.
  • Supervise and mentor study engineers, ensuring consistency and quality of results across projects.
  • Provide technical leadership in developing study methodologies, automation tools, and best practices for U.S. T&D interconnection studies.
  • Research, design, and test software applications for modeling, control, and energy management of renewable energy systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems emphasis preferred).
  • 5+ years of professional experience conducting and leading transmission and/or distribution interconnection studies for utility-scale projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. interconnection standards and procedures, including IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, NERC/FERC, and ISO/RTO processes (CAISO, PJM, ERCOT, MISO, etc.).
  • Proficiency in simulation tools such as PSSE, PSCAD, PSLF, and TSAT, along with familiarity with their associated scripting and automation interfaces (e.g., Python, PSS/E API, PSLF EPCL, PSCAD scripting).
  • Expertise in modeling and control of renewable plants, battery storage, and inverter-based resources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex technical results to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and lead cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Work Authorization: U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency/work authorization.
