About the role
Join us and design your place with Stantec. Our Buildings Government Services team has an opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer. Your role as a contributor on our professional consulting team is to work on projects of high complexity and serve as a leader of a team or project through all phases of a project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead work on multiple projects with a team of design colleagues to conceptualize and develop full documentation for new construction and renovation projects for multiple types of facilities such as healthcare, commercial offices, higher education, research laboratory, and industrial facilities.
- Lead in client meetings on projects to establish design criteria, review design progress as well as support through construction administration.
- Lead in evaluation, selection, and engineering of all electrical engineered systems and products for a project.
- Lead the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
- Lead the development of a design through sketches, engineering calculations, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Prepare and review documentation in various project phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
- Lead in the development of new standards and specifications for the electrical engineering group, along with a team of other electrical engineers.
- Perform field work (or reviews field work performed by others) to review existing facility conditions for use in development of site-specific electrical design documents and to review work being performed by contractors.
- Apply technical expertise while leading cross-functional resources to meet project requirements within established timeframes and budget.
- Provide client consultation, drawing on professional expertise and knowledge of Stantec's services.
- Nurture existing client relationships and proactively pursues opportunities for new business.
- Act as a resource for staff to all levels in any area of technical expertise and works with staff to train them on applicable knowledge of electrical / building codes, field work, and the processes associated with designing electrical systems.
- Maintain current knowledge of technologies and trends, as they apply to the applicable project and market types, and continually strengthen skills.
- Implement sustainable design principles into the building design and surrounding environment.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of power distribution systems, lighting systems, and low voltage systems for the built environment.
- Experience in the construction industry and/or in-depth knowledge of construction processes, including construction administration roles.
- Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
- Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines at the conceptual and/or schematic programming design phase.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA Standards, International Building Codes and Applicable Energy Codes.
- Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to lead multiple overlapping projects and design teams while maintaining project execution excellence and schedule.
- Able to recognize when technical problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
- Able to check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Able to give direction and give feedback and suggestions to Senior and Junior Engineers and Designers.
- Able to lead collaboration in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Able to develop sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material for use by Junior Engineers and Designers.
- Able to produce calculations based on project specific parameters, such as load calculations, short circuit studies, and lighting calculations.
- Able to produce reports and studies as well as interpret the findings of reports or studies prepared by others.
- Able to produce project specific technical specifications independently from an industry or office standard master specification.
- Able to participate and provide insight into project planning and budgeting with other disciplines and project leaders.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD, and the use of it as a drafting/design tool.
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with AGI 32, SKM, Newforma is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of low voltage systems such as telecommunications, security and fire alarm is advantageous but not required.
- Experience in healthcare, laboratory and industrial facilities is advantageous but not required.
Skills

Pay
$107,100.00 - $160,700.00 Annually
