About the role

This Sr. Electrical Engineer is an experienced-level position where the incumbent must possess an advanced level of engineering knowledge and be fully competent in all conventional aspects of broad areas of technical assignment. This role will serve as a specialist and Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or more of the areas of RF, power analysis, and high-speed digital and analog board designs. The person in this position will support the teams at the Talladega site, providing technical input and consulting services in all phases of the design, manufacturing, and sustainment processes.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out specific project responsibilities as part of larger program objectives involved in the design and development of products, equipment, or processes.
  • Design and layout complex items; develop specifications, schematics, assembly drawings, and bill of materials.
  • Prepare sub-system performance specifications and evaluate/select optimum design alternatives.
  • Determine design feasibility and ensure product designs are competitive.
  • Provide directions to others on appropriate materials and processes for specific component applications.
  • Lead or conduct experiments to evaluate operating characteristics of products or processes; execute test and troubleshooting activity.
  • Evaluate engineering prototypes and translate experimental results into design criteria.
  • Develop task inputs to engineering project plans and maintain liaison with other departments.
  • Respond to customer engineering queries and advise on engineering information relevant to the organization’s product capabilities.
  • Provide technical presentation support and consultation for marketing.
  • Represent the engineering unit in customer or field force contacts, troubleshooting customer application problems.
  • Utilize project planning and monitoring methods to ensure timely completion; assume responsibility for successful completion (schedule, performance, cost) of systems and sub-systems.
  • Perform preliminary engineering to confirm plans and programs; assist in assuring the technical soundness of engineering programs.
  • Support the manufacturing process in resolving design problems; collaborate with purchasing in obtaining quotations or bids and recommend vendor selection.
  • Prepare engineering specifications for major purchases; prepare reports of field tests, startups, or installations and write technical instructions.
  • Supervise the work of other engineering personnel on a project or ongoing basis.
  • Contribute to process improvements and recommend cost-efficient vendors to management.
  • Provide technical input and support to the Talladega teams in analog and digital design and sustainment during all phases of design, manufacturing, and sustainment.
  • Demonstrate competence in schematic capture, PCB layout, and working with external PCB layout service providers.
  • Self-direct and analyze priorities to drive improved profits; track, manage, and report leadership status of projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent scientific discipline with 4–7 or more years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Electrical or Electronic Engineering degree preferred.
  • Intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
  • Prior experience with two or more of the following: CRTs & optics, HUDs, RF, Radar, Power supply design, firmware, test software, JTAG, ICT, ESS.
  • Strong preference for accomplishing goals in innovative and cost-effective ways.
  • Ability to function and communicate effectively in a dynamic, integrated product team environment, supporting multiple programs daily.
  • Experience with current electronic manufacturing processes and methods, including compact/high-density electronic and component packaging techniques.

Travel/Physical Requirements

Approximately 10% travel time (~3–4 trips of up to 1 week each per year) will be required to support multiple sites and cross-site projects. Some domestic travel will be required, with possible international travel.
