Duties & Responsibilities
- People Providing engineering mentorship to all technical employees on their teams.
- Holding all team members accountable for the quality of the work they produce and sharing immediate feedback.
- Providing feedback to Team Leaders on the quality of the work their team members are producing.
- Leading teams of employees to execute on projects. This includes delegating tasks plus reviewing and taking ownership of all work produced by their project team.
- Projects Providing quality control for project types with which they are familiar with an emphasis on the following:
- Attending technical kickoff meetings setup by the project’s lead engineer to review project scope and ensure all engineering challenges have been identified prior to project execution.
- Performing quality control reviews for each project at every official issuance.
- Singing off on the quality and completeness of the projects they review.
- Educating the project team on engineering issues found in reviews with the goal of eliminating the issue for the next project.
- Serving as a project’s lead engineer for complex projects when staffed by a Team Leader and performing high level engineering tasks to the highest level of detail. They are not drafters; they focus on documenting high level work only then delegate other tasks to members of their project team.
- Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Designing electrical distribution systems including zoning concepts, single line diagrams, and equipment specifications for both low and medium voltages.
- Coinciding with local electrical utility companies and designing site electrical infrastructure plans.
- Creating detailed reports as needed for electrical studies such as power quality, selective coordination, arc-flash incident energy, and power system reliability.
- Performing complex electrical distribution analysis such as generator paralleling, reliability, and redundancy.
- Performing and documenting high level code research and competently discussing it with clients, local authorities, and peers.
- Performing advanced calculations such as load shedding, derating, custom feeder sizing, etc.
- Researching and preparing engineering studies such as feasibility studies, life cycle analysis, and cost analysis.
- Editing master specifications to be job specific, and writing custom specifications as required.
- Designing complex lighting control systems in compliance with energy code requirements.
- Taking ownership of their work and resolving complex project issues during construction including mitigating change orders.
- Aiding in the development of project proposals.
- Aiding Market Practice Leaders with project pursuits including interviews as the technical experts.
- Effectively delegating work to others.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree (BS) from an accredited four-year university required.
- 10+ years of applicable experience within the AEC industry preferred.
- Licensed professional engineer (PE) required.
- Detailed understanding of portions of the following codes and standards applicable to their discipline:
- National Electrical Code (NEC)
- International Building Code (IBC)
- International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)
- NFPA standards such as: 72 – National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, 101 – Life Safety Code, 110 – Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems
